Basilica of St Peter and St Paul

The basilica features an impressive stone mosaic above its entry, and its twin 58 m towers can be seen atop a hill to the south from along the Vltava River in central Prague.

Bohuslav Karlík

A native of Prague, Karlík teamed up with fellow canoer Jan Brzák-Felix in 1955 to paddle the 118 miles (189.9 km) of the Vltava from České Budějovice to Prague in 20 hours.

Imperial Royal Austrian State Railways

The introduction of railway traffic in the Austrian Empire had been pushed by pioneers like physicist František Josef Gerstner (1756–1832), who advocated a railway connection from the Vltava basin across the Bohemian Massif to the Danube river.

The Devil's Wall

The subtext of the plot is a Czech legend of a sheer rockface that overlooks the Vltava river, near the old monastery of Vyšši Brod, where the Devil was said to have halted the building of the monastery by damming the Vltava, which then rose and flooded the site.
