Adela Popescu was born in the Șușani village of Valcea district; she was a normal girl but become famous when she gained a role in the first Romanian soap opera Numai Iubirea (Only Love).
Valerian Zaharia Gârlă (born July 6, 1986 in Berbești, Vâlcea, Romania), is a Romanian football player, currently under contract with FC Milsami.
Situated on the valley of the Lotru River, the commune is also a spa resort, with a Communist-era hotel dominating the locality, as well as several other tourist facilities.
