After the purchase of Leyland Bus by Volvo, Lothian remained loyal to the Volvo Olympian chassis, taking 134 with Alexander RH and Royale type bodies between 1994 and 1997.

Stagecoach's Magic Bus operation in Glasgow was also purchased, bringing in mainly Stagecoach-standard Volvo B10M-55/Alexander PSs and Alexander Dash-bodied Dennis Darts, and the company slowly returned to profitability, with new vehicle purchases starting again in 1993, these were mainly Volvo B10B/Alexander Striders, Volvo B6/Alexander Dashes and Volvo Olympian/Alexander Royales.
In 1995 52 new Volvo Olympian double-deckers were bought for the route by then-operator Stagecoach London at a cost of £5.5 million.
On 3 March 1996, the Sunday service was converted to single deck operation and the Monday to Saturday operation was run by new Northern Counties bodied Volvo Olympians.
