His daughter Cathi Carson is the sports reporter at two Jacksonville stations in Jacksonville WTEV and WAWS and was formerly a reporter at WWSB.
On June 20, 2012, Cox Media Group announced that it put KRXI and the LMA for KAME, along with stations in Steubenville, Ohio, Johnstown, Pennsylvania and El Paso, Texas, on the market following its purchase of four television stations in Jacksonville, Florida and Tulsa, Oklahoma from Newport Television.
However, due to Providence Equity Partners' partial ownership stake in the Spanish-language network Univision, the owner of MyNetworkTV affiliate KUVI-TV, KKEY-LP was sold along with KGET-TV and five other stations (KGPE in Fresno, California, KTVX and KUCW in the Salt Lake City, Utah DMA, WOAI-TV in San Antonio, Texas and WTEV-TV in Jacksonville, Florida) to High Plains Broadcasting.
