From 1997 until early 2013, the station identified on-air as Today's THV, a branding that may have been inspired by the stations of Journal Broadcast Group, which has two stations using the format; Milwaukee NBC affiliate WTMJ-TV, which has used the Today's TMJ4 branding (inspired by viewers identifying the station solely as "TMJ") since July 1992, and their Boise, Idaho station KIVI-TV, which goes by Today's Channel 6 or Today's 6.
WTMJ-TV, Milwaukee's first television station, went on the air in 1947.
The Mike Schneider Polka Band was the featured subject of the September 15, 2005-edition of the show Positively Milwaukee on WTMJ-TV for its work on the Wisconsin Polka, a benefit project for Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.
As a CBS affiliate, the station did well in the ratings, even surpassing NBC affiliate WTMJ-TV, rare at the time for a UHF station.
The WTMJ-TV and WISN-TV towers were nearby, and locating the tower there meant that Milwaukee TV viewers could point their antennas in the same general direction.
In 2005, it moved to its present channel location on channel 41 to avoid interference with the digital signal of Milwaukee NBC affiliate WTMJ-TV.

Offers to affiliate with the network had already been turned down by NBC affiliate WTMJ-TV (channel 4), ABC affiliate WISN-TV (channel 12, which had been affiliated with CBS from 1961 to 1977), WVTV (channel 18; which had earlier been a CBS owned-and-operated station in the 1950s), WCGV (channel 24) and WJJA (channel 49, now WMLW-TV).
Following a June 28, 2006 talk radio segment on WTMJ, Barrett's views came to the attention of Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle, U.S. Representative Mark Green, and State Representative Stephen L. Nass.
WTMJ-TV already carries Local AccuWeather in that market, but WMVS's digital AccuWeather subchannel is purposefully structured to meet non-commercial guidelines and focuses more on local mapping, while not making any mention of AccuWeather to speak of or airing LAWC content, substituting NOAA Weather Radio audio from local station KEC60 instead.
