Waje was born in Akure in Nigeria then moved to Benin city, edo state where she was raised by her parents, Mr & Mrs Iruobe.
On the 26th of December 2013, Nikki Laoye was unveiled as the winner of the category for the Best Vocal Performance (Female) for her soulful ballad 'Only You' in a strong field that included singers Waje, Niyola, Sheyi Shay and Zaina, at The Headies 2013 Award ceremony in Lagos, Nigeria.
