HSV was created in 1987 as a joint venture between Holden and Tom Walkinshaw Racing – an operation owned by Scottish racing car driver and entrepreneur Tom Walkinshaw.

It shared the same 1.8L engine as the standard Astra, but was released with extractors, sports exhaust and an aerodynamic sports body kit (adopted from the Walkinshaw, which is why the SV1800 was nicknamed the Baby Walky) however, and only ~65 were made in both sedan and hatchback form.

The theater often shares castmembers with Omaha-born filmmaker Alexander Payne, who has been a longtime supporter of the theater, volunteering to be interviewed on the stage of the Omaha Community Playhouse by theater cofounder Hughston Walkinshaw as a fundraising effort in 2002.
In 1705 the owner, John Walkinshaw, began to feu the lands of Blackfaulds (part of the Barrowfield estate) on which the old village of Calton was built, and in 1817 a charter was granted, erecting Calton into a Burgh.
Following the ATCC, McLeod built a new 'Walkinshaw' spec VL Commodore Group A SV with the engine and suspension supplied by the Peter Brock organisation, who by that stage were running the BMW M3's.
A falling out with Benetton boss Flavio Briatore saw Walkinshaw move to a position as team manager at Ligier, which had been acquired by Briatore.
