HMAS Wallaroo

HMAS Wallaroo (J222), named after the town of Wallaroo, South Australia, was one of 60 Bathurst class corvettes constructed during World War II, and one of 36 initially manned and commissioned solely by the Royal Australian Navy (RAN).

Mount Hill, South Australia

The Water Witch and Porter parted there, the Porter returning to Port Lincoln with Gawler and the Water Witch to Adelaide via Point Riley, near Wallaroo.


Bandicoot-class minesweeper

During 2001, Bandicoot and Wallaroo were involved in Operation Bel Isi, the Australian commitment to the Bougainville Peace Monitoring Group.

Moses Aaron Richardson

He acted for some time as librarian of the Melbourne Mechanics' Institute, but eventually became a journalist and editor of the ‘Wallaroo Times.’ From 1874 he taught drawing and watercolour painting at Adelaide, where he died on 28 November 1877.
