After publishing the Sadler Papers, Clifford made a search at Tixall for the papers of Walter, Lord Aston, ambassador in Spain under James I and Charles I.
He had three children by his first marriage, including Lady Mary Weston (2 January 1603-after August 1678), who married the 2nd Lord Aston of Forfar in 1629, and Lady Elizabeth Weston, who married John Netterville, 2nd Viscount Netterville.
Lord Forfar returned as envoy to Spain in 1636, and although the dispute over the restoration of the Palatinate to the new Elector Palatine (the Winter King having died) remained intractable, Lord Forfar did assistance to twenty-seven lawsuits involving English merchants in Spanish courts.

In 1603, at the coronation of King James I of England, Aston was honoured with the Order of the Bath at which Michael Drayton the poet acted as his esquire (Aston had become his patron and between 1602 to 1607 Drayton decicated five of his works to Sir Walter).
Walter Aston, 2nd Lord Aston of Forfar (6 April 1609 – 23 April 1678) was a son of Walter Aston, 1st Lord Aston of Forfar, and Gertrude Sadleir, daughter of Sir Thomas Sadleir of Standon, Hertfordshire.
Theodorick Bland of Westover, Walter Aston, and William Byrd I are buried near the original site of the Westover Church.
