Walter Stewart, 1st Lord Blantyre

Educated with James VI under George Buchanan, he was Knight of Cardonald, Prior of Blantyre, Keeper of the Privy Seal of Scotland from 1582 to 1596, an Extraordinary Lord of Session from 1593, an Octavian from 1596, Lord High Treasurer of Scotland from 1596 to 1599.

Walter Stewart, 6th High Steward of Scotland

He was the son of James Stewart, 5th High Steward of Scotland and Cecilia of Dunbar daughter of Earl Patrick of Dunbar.

In 1322, with Douglas and Thomas Randolph, he made an attempt to surprise the English King at Byland Abbey, near Malton, Yorkshire.


Dughall MacSuibhne

In 1262, he lost his lordship and lands to Walter Stewart, Earl of Menteith after Alexander III of Scotland granted Skipnish, Killislate amongst other lands in Knapdale and the parish of Kilcalmonell in Kintyre.

The Great Stewardship of Scotland was granted to Walter Fitz Alan by David I, and came to the Sovereign through the accession of Robert Stewart, son of Walter Stewart, 6th Great Steward of Scotland, and of Marjorie Bruce, Princess of Scotland, daughter of Robert I, as Robert II in 1371.
