During his military career he served as the Commandant of the SLEME training School in Embilipitiya, Brigade Commander of the 56-2 and 51-2 Brigades, Assistant Military Secretary, Director Operations and Director Plans at at Army Headquarters and Commander Forward Maintenance Area, Wanni.
The First Battle of Elephant Pass was a battle fought in July 1991 for the control of the Sri Lankan military base of Elephant Pass, which was of strategic importance as it linked the northern mainland known as Wanni with the Jaffna Peninsula.
Many Gemunu Watch units were involved in the operations in the East and Wanni regions during the last stages of the Sri Lankan Civil War in 2007 and 2008.
Some fled into Wanni forests with the statue of Mary and built the Shrine of Our Lady of Madhu.
