The fort is on land owned by the National Trust, part of the Trust's Wasdale, Eskdale and Duddon property, and maintained by English Heritage.

Margaret Hogg suffocated and Peter wrapped her body in a carpet, tied it to a block of concrete, drove north and dumped the body in Wast Water lake in the Wasdale valley in the Lake District National Park, England.
It is located at the "head" of the valley of Wasdale, and is surrounded by some of England's highest mountains: Scafell Pike, Sca Fell, Great Gable, Kirk Fell and Pillar.
The Wasdale Lady in the Lake, Margaret Hogg, was murdered and her body was disposed of in the lake.
