The village has joined up with the neighbouring village of Washbrook to form the Copdock & Washbrook Parish Council.
The parish was formed in 1996 by a merger of the individual parishes of Copdock and Washbrook, though Washbrook lost some of its northeastern land area to Sproughton and Pinewood, whilst Copdock's eastern boundary with Belstead was redrawn to match the new route of the A12.
