The Grindau rises in the Viehbruch near Wedemark-Plumhof and flows initially westwards via Lindwedel, Adolfsglück, Hope, Esperke to the village of Grindau, where it discharges into the Leine.
The laboratory was named after the village of Wennebostel in the municipality of Wedemark, where it had been moved to due to the war.
