They recorded an album entitled Give Praise Where Praise Is Deserved with Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and in 1988 Amampondo were asked to play at Nelson Mandela's seventieth birthday concert at Wembley.

Liam Corr

Corr also lead out the first ever Scotland squad to play at the new Wembley.

Ralph Brand

Brand signed for Rangers after impressing manager Bill Struth whilst playing in a schoolboy international against England at Wembley in 1952.

Wembley’s Conference of Living Religions 1924

Wembley's Parliament of Living Religions was part of the British Empire Exhibition of 1924, inviting famous representatives of important Living Religions within the British Empire.


1972–73 FA Cup

Second Division Sunderland won the competition for the second and (as of 2008) final time, beating Leeds United 1–0 in the final at Wembley, London with a goal from Ian Porterfield.

1987–88 Wimbledon F.C. season

Liverpool created many chances, but failed to pull a goal back, with Dave Beasant saving a penalty from John Aldridge after Clive Goodyear was (incorrectly) adjudged to have fouled inside the box; Beasant was the first goalkeeper to ever save a penalty at Wembley.

1988 FA Cup Final

The Merseysiders were awarded a penalty on the hour mark following a foul by Clive Goodyear on John Aldridge, though replays showed that Goodyear won the ball cleanly, but Aldridge's penalty was saved by Beasant's diving save to his left, thus becoming the first keeper to save a penalty in a Wembley FA Cup final.

Alf Ramsey

Ramsey came under pressure to restore the fit-again Jimmy Greaves to the side: but he stuck to his guns and kept faith with Greaves's replacement, Geoff Hurst, who vindicated Ramsey's judgement by scoring a hat-trick in a 4–2 win (after extra time) at Wembley.
