Along with Puyi and Empress Wanrong, Wenxiu left the Forbidden City in 1924, and moved to the Zhang Garden (张园) in the Japanese Concession of Tianjin.
He was succeeded by a man called Du Wenxiu (杜文秀; pinyin: Dù Wénxiù) (1823–1872), an ethnic Hui born in Yongcheng.
In the 1970s, Hong Kong's RTV produced a television series based on the story, starring Sharon Yeung as Li Wenxiu.
