The Wesselényi family whose members built a baroque castle had an important role in the history of the town.
The works for the organization of the Botanical Garden from Jibou started between the years 1959-1968, when Vasile Fati (1932-2007), a biology teacher, with the students and with the other teachers manages to prove that the parks around Wesselényi Castle, where the high school was functioning is appropriate for a botanical garden.
It was built by local craftsmen under direction of Count Ferenc Wesselényi.
Hodod was given by King Rudolf II of Habsburg to the family Wesselényi, to whom it belongs to the 20th century.
His major works in the twentieth century modelled shortly before his death include the Equestrian Statue of Béla Wenckheim (Kisbér, 1901), Statue of Wesselényi (Zilah, 1901), Tuhutum Memorial (Zilah, 1902), and Statue of Lajos Tisza (Szeged, 1903).
