In January 1927, the surviving original cars were condemned and it was decided to purchase five trams from the recently defunct West Hartlepool system at a cost of £850 including spares.
In 1949 Mr JB Irvine, the son of a West Hartlepool timber merchant, entered into partnership with FWJ Webb.
He served an apprenticeship in the shipbuilding yard Pile & Co. at West Hartlepool.

Also known as RAF 'West Hartlepool', was located at Hartlepool and was little more than a grass airstrip, a satellite station of RAF Thornaby.
