Sires allies Silverio Vega, Brian Stack and Nick Sacco delivered massive turnouts in their respective towns of West New York, Union City and North Bergen.
The two most prominent names running for the seat in the regular election were the former Speaker of the New Jersey General Assembly, Albio Sires of West New York, and Assemblyman Joseph Vas, who is also Mayor of Perth Amboy, both of whom ran in the Democratic primary.
Vega resigned from his position as Freeholder as of 5:00 p.m. on November 21, 2006, and West New York Commissioner Gerald Lange, Jr. replaced Vega as Freeholder.
