Battery Kemble Park

It was named after Gouverneur Kemble of Cold Spring, New York, former superintendent of West Point Foundry, where most of the heavy Army and Navy guns were made during the Civil War.

IA has published a number of issues with articles on a common theme, including Montréal's Lachine Canal (2003), the Springfield Armory (1988), the West Point Foundry (2012), and two on the Historic American Engineering Record (1997 and 1999).


Gouverneur Kemble

Along with other partners including his brother William and a consortium of investors including General Joseph Gardner Swift of the U.S. Army, in 1817 he founded the West Point Foundry Association to produce artillery pieces following the War of 1812.

Plumbush

It was built for Parrott by local architect George Edward Harney in 1865, when he had taken over as superintendent of the nearby West Point Foundry.
