2 unusual facts about Western Australian Government Railways

Western Australian Government Railways

While the current Western Australian urban passenger network under Transperth Trains is entirely electrified, between May 1924 and March 1969 the State Electricity Commission operated the only 1067 mm narrow gauge electrified line in Western Australia as part of the WAGR network.

A few were isolated from the network, such as the Marble Bar and Hopetoun lines.

Toodyay, Western Australia

Historically Newcastle was connected to the WAGR network by a line that left the Eastern Railway at Clackline, which then travelled through Western Toodyay to proceed to Bolgart and then on to Miling.

WAGR Y class

The Y class was a class of diesel locomotives built by Clayton Equipment Company, Hatton for the Western Australian Government Railways between 1953 and 1955.
