On 15 June 2009 Saracen announced that the mine would be connected to the Western Power grid through a 90 km power line rather than being supplied by diesel generators on site.
The Municipal Council ran the Power Station until finally in 1955 the State Grid operated by the SEC was connected to Toodyay.
In December 2005, Western Power was fined $17,500 by a magistrate, having been taken to court by the Office of Energy Safety for failing to maintain a safe power network.
It was split from the then vertically integrated Western Power, in 2006 during reforms to the state's electricity sector .
