The region is nearly surrounded by three provincial borders: in the west that of Flevoland (Noordoostpolder region), in the north that of Friesland (Stellingwerven region) and in the east that of Drenthe (the municipalities of Westerveld and Meppel).
Jay Westerveld (also spelled Westervelt and Westerveldt) is a researcher of habitats associated with endangered species including the Clam shrimp, Bog turtle, and the Northern Cricket frog.
Westerveld made his debut for the Netherlands on 8 June 1999, in an away friendly 3-1 defeat to Brazil in Goiania.
