Rhode Island founder Roger Williams was active in both Providence and nearby North Kingstown (Wickford) during this period.
South County Museum was founded in 1933 in North Kingstown and the original collections were held in a barn in Wickford.
Updike did, however, use Wickford as the model for the fictional village of Eastwick in his novel, The Witches of Eastwick (Knopf: 1984).
