In January 2008, it was merged with the Ämter Karrharde, Süderlügum and Bökingharde, and the municipalities Niebüll and Leck to form the Amt Südtondern.
Wiedingharde Frisian (Wiringhiirder freesk) is a dialect of the North Frisian language spoken in the German amt of Wiedingharde south of the border to Denmark in North Frisia (historic south of the river Widau).
