William Lafayette Strong

He was born in Loudonville, Ohio; was a dry-goods salesman in Wooster and then in Manchester, Ohio; in 1853 went to New York City, where he engaged in similar business, and in 1869 became the head of the firm of William L. Strong & Co.


Abraham B. Tappen

He was a New York City Park Commissioner from 1891 to 1895, appointed by Mayor Hugh J. Grant to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Waldo Hutchins, and re-appointed to a full five-year term, but removed from office by Mayor William L. Strong.
