A pioneer in Singapore’s newspaper industry, Boustead was a co-founder of the Singapore Free Press with architect George Drumgoole Coleman and William Napier.
The paper was founded as Singapore's second English language newspaper by William Napier, Edward Boustead and Walter Scott Lorrain on 1 October 1835 as the Singapore Free Press & Mercantile Advertiser.
The feature is named after Captain William Napier, Master of the schooner Venus, from New York, who visited the South Shetland Islands in 1820-21.
