Candahar, Ghunzee, Cabul Medal was awarded to those who took part in the First Anglo-Afghan War under the command of General William Nott.
In 2005 it was suggested that a statue be erected in Nott Square in the town, replacing that of Sir William Nott.
On 30 August he routed the Afghans at Ghazni, and on 6 September occupied the fortress, from which he carried away, by the governor-general's express instructions, the gates of the temple of Somnath ; on the 17th he joined Pollock at Kabul.
