William Pember Reeves, a Liberal Party politician and theorist, said that while the party supported an active role for the state, particularly in social matters, it did not in any way seek to discourage or inhibit private enterprise.
The New Zealand Antarctic Place-Names Committee (NZ-APC) reported that the glacier is probably named for William Pember Reeves, former New Zealand Cabinet Minister, and the Agent-General for New Zealand in London, 1896-1909.
They had two daughters, the feminist writer Amber Reeves (born 1887) and Beryl (born 1889); and one son, Fabian Pember Reeves (1895-1917).
