Born in 1977, Conrad Kongkal Sangma is the son of former Chief Minister of Meghalaya and also Speaker of the Lok Sabha, P. A. Sangma, his sister, Agatha Sangma is member of the 15th Lok Sabha and a former Union Cabinet minister Minister of State , while his brother James Sangma is a fellow member of the State Legislative Assembly.
NCP was formed on 25 May 1999, by Sharad Pawar, P. A. Sangma, and Tariq Anwar after they were expelled from the Indian National Congress (INC) on 20 May 1999, for disputing the right of Italian-born Sonia Gandhi to lead the party.
