Thirty-five years ago, parents realized they wanted their students closer to home and the result was Serrano High School, that serves not only Wrightwood but neighboring communities of Phelan and Pinon Hills.
In 1896, Adolph Cudell and Arthur Hercz built a German baroque mansion for him at 503 West Wrightwood Avenue in Lincoln Park, Chicago, that became the Chicago landmark Francis J. Dewes House.
The area's schools include Piñon Mesa Middle School, Serrano High School (named after the Serrano people), Quail Valley Middle School, Baldy Mesa Elementary, Piñon Hills Elementary, Wrightwood Elementary, Vista Verde Elementary, Heritage School, Chaparral High School, Desert View Independent School, Eagle Summit Community Day School, and Phelan Elementary.
