Regular wireless broadcasts for entertainment commenced in 1922 from the Marconi Research Centre at Writtle near Chelmsford, England.
Transmissions began on 14 February 1922 from an ex-Army hut next to the Marconi laboratories at Writtle, near Chelmsford in Essex.
John Raynsford was the only son of Sir John Raynsford of Bradfield Hall, Essex, and his first wife, Anne Starkey (d. 26 December 1488), widow of John Writtle, esquire, and daughter and coheir of Sir Humphrey Starkey of Littlehall in Wouldham, Kent, Chief Baron of the Exchequer.
Robert Rochester was born at Terling, Essex, the third son of John Rochester and Grisold Writtle, daughter of Walter Writtle of Bobbingworth.
The international team at Writtle also organises tris to local sites, including London, making international students feel at ease. In 2013, the Writtle College Students' Union was named the Small and Specialist Students' Union of the Year at the NUS National Union of Students awards ceremony in Manchester.
