3 unusual facts about Xanthorrhoea


Beelu National Park

The park contains an abundance of native flora including Jarrah, Marri, Zamia, Bull Banksia, Sheoak and Grass tree.

Little Lorikeet

Fruit and flowers form the bulk of their diet, including native grasstrees (Xanthorrhoea spp.), and tea-tree (Melaleuca spp.), Loranthus, and the introduced loquat (Eriobotrya japonica).

New Holland Honeyeater

Consequently, they are key pollinators of many flowering plant species, many of which are endemic to Australia such as Banksia, Hakea, Xanthorrhoea (Yacka), and Acacia.

The granite areas have two types one is an area covered by Xanthorrhoea preissii, Gastrolobium calycinum with a Borya herbfield and the other is dominated by Melaleuca, Dodonaea also with a herbfield of Borya.

Preiss is commemorated in the names of about 100 species of flora in Western Australia, including plants in the genera Acacia, Allocasuarina, Eucalyptus, Grevillea, Hakea, Kunzea, Melaleuca, Santalum, Xanthorrhoea and Callitris.

Xanthorrhoea preissii

Its occurrence is a characteristic of two other Marri (Corymbia calophylla) communities, but the Marri/Xanthorrhoea community is distinguished by the drier soils of the communities range along the eastern edge of the Swan Coastal Plain.
