Clipstone

Following the armistice troops from the Queens Royal West Surrey 4th/5th reserve Battalion and the York’s and Lanc’s Reg were involved in a mutinous riot at the camp, following disquiet at the slow rate of being demobilised.

LMR 57 Lion

This loco was built by the North British Locomotive Company at Glasgow in November 1927 and withdrawn in January 1964 as 46142 The York and Lancaster Regiment.

York and Lancaster Regiment

The former 5th Battalion (Territorial Army), which had converted to anti-aircraft artillery in 1936, as the 67th (Y & L) HAA Regiment, Royal Artillery, served in the North African Campaign in 1941 before being transferred to India and then Burma where they were prominent at Imphal, and later at Mandalay.

One of the characters in Alan Bennett's play The History Boys goes on from school and university to serve in the York and Lancaster Regiment.
