They are a nearly threatened species and almost threatened in Yungas.
Lino Villca Delgado is a Bolivian politician, a leader of the coca growers movement in the Yungas, a co-founder of the Movement for Socialism (MAS) who turned party dissident.
The species name "yungas" is derived from the region Yungas, from whence the species was collected for examination.
As this area approaches the tropics, fauna differs from the rest of the coast, so that animals like the boas, larger reptiles and the famous White-winged Guan (a bird species unique to this Peruvian ecoregion) occur here.
Through mobile registration and publicity campaigns in the Yungas, Manco Kapac, Beni and Chuquisaca regions, and in collaboration with the National Civil Registry Bureau of Bolivia, the right to identity is now a reality for more than 15,000 individuals, most of them indigenous.
Its cultivation was prohibited by Bolivian law, except in the region of Yungas despite its affinity to the climate and land of the Chapare region.
