US ambassador to the UN Zalmay Khalilzad was "outraged", and requested the UN Security Council immediately issue a statement "expressing the council's outrage, condemning the attack, and also reminding the Serb government of its responsibility to protect diplomatic facilities."

According to the Indian press American ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad accused Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf of knowing which guest houses in Pakistan Osama bin Laden, and other senior members of the Taliban and al Qaeda were being hosted.
