Zbarazh

Zbarazh is one of the settings of Henryk Sienkiewicz's novel With Fire and Sword (1884) in which he gives a detailed description of the famous Siege of Zbarazh.

The new Zbarazh Castle was designed for Prince Jeremi Wiśniowiecki in a post-Palladian Italian idiom similar to Scamozzi's by the Dutch architect van Peyen in 1626–31.

After several years of study at the Academy of Kraków, he took part in the war against the insurgents of Bohdan Khmelnytsky (Khmelnytsky Uprising) and participated in the battles of Zbarazh in 1649, Beresteczko in 1651, Żwaniec in 1653 and Ochmatów in 1655.
