Liutward was the archchancellor of the Carolingian Empire from 878 and the bishop of Vercelli from 880 by appointment of Charles the Fat, whose chief minister he was.
Sigebert of Gembloux (Patrologia Latina, CXL, 584 sq.) calls him also Bishop of Vercelli, but the early documents of the diocese leave no place for him in the list of bishops.
Atto of Vercelli or Atto II (885-961) was a Lombard who became bishop of Vercelli in 924.
