In 1961, Drapers Record was bought along with the Illustrated London News, Men's Wear and the Tatler by the Thomson Corporation and formed into the new Thomson Publications business.
Richard Seifert, its designer as well as the architect of Tower 42, described the Drapers Gardens' skyscraper as his proudest achievement.

In 1537, Thomas Howell, a Welsh merchant trading in Bristol, London and Seville, bequeathed 12,000 gold ducats to the Drapers' Guild to provide dowries “every yere for Maydens for ever.” His “Merchant’s Mark” is still used as a logo for the school.
The engineered river channel made it a good site for further development, and a consortium of businessmen from Nottingham and drapers from Mansfield leased the vale and Pleasley Park in 1782, in order to construct water-powered cotton mills.
He then served as Master of the Drapers' Company, sat as an alderman on the City of London Corporation, and was president of St Thomas' Hospital, which he probably saved from ruin, by discovering the frauds of a dishonest steward.
