Benjamin Kaufman (March 10, 1894-February 5, 1981) was a First Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War I.
On October 8, 1918, while fighting near Consenvoye, France, while his unit was pinned down by heavy German machine gun fire, First Sergeant Anderson volunteered to leave his unit in an attempt at flanking the enemy machine gun emplacement.
On January 29, 1945, he was serving as a first sergeant in Company C, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division at Holzheim Belgium when he encountered a group of more than 80 German soldiers, most of whom had previously been captured by American forces but, with the help of a German patrol, had managed to overwhelm their guards.
He later reached the rank of first sergeant and served in the Nez Perce War, during which he was involved in action that earned him the Medal of Honor.
