Chrysomya villeneuvi, or Hairy Maggot, is a South East Asian fly species of forensic importance because the Hairy maggots of this species have been collected from human corpses.
In 1881 he worked with Eduard von Hofmann on the insects of exhumed bodies making him one of the founders of forensic entomology.
The first written record of forensic entomology being employed in legal matters dates back centuries to Song Ci (1186-1249) a Chinese forensic medical expert.
