This heronry, in the Tumkur district of Karnataka, was first made known to the outside world in 1999 by members of the Tumkur-based NGO Wildlife Aware Nature Club.
The wood supports a breeding bird community characteristic of ancient woodlands, including Woodcock, and it also contains a small heronry.
Kaggaladu heronry: Located on the Sira – Chengavara main road, this is one of Karnataka's largest nesting sites for Painted Stork and Grey Herons.
