The UN's Jan Egeland has condemned the devastation caused by Israeli air strikes in Beirut, saying it is a violation of humanitarian law.
According to Canadian MP and former minister Irwin Cotler, the use of law to delegitimize Israel is present in five areas: United Nations, international law, humanitarian law, the struggle against racism and the struggle against genocide.
Additionally, he studied education administration at the University of Lima in 1985/86, and international humanitarian law in armed conflicts at the International Institute of Humanitarian Law in San Remo, Italy, in 1998.
Under United Nations Security Council Resolution 1998, the Security Council urged "parties to armed conflict to refrain from actions that impede children’s access to education," and requested that the UN Secretary-General "monitor and report ... on the military use of schools ... in contravention of international humanitarian law...".
