The band are due to release their second single on Kitsuné in 2014 and are playing a few select shows in the UK as well as festival Les Inrocks in Paris, supporting Swim Deep.
As another example of the connection between Dakini-ten and the government of Japan, in the Genpei Jōsuiki it is claimed that Taira no Kiyomori met a kitsune on the road and that his subsequent performance of Dakini-ten rites caused him to rise from an unimportant clan leader to the ruler of the entire nation.
Alternatively, he was said to have transformed into an Ootengu (greater tengu), whom, along with nurarihyon, the nine-tailed kitsune Tamamo-no-Mae and the oni Shuten-dōji, are often called the four greatest yōkai of Japan.
In the Iga region, Mie Prefecture, there is the saying, "the fox has seven disguises, the tanuki has eight, and the marten has nine," and there is a legend about how the marten has greater ability in shapeshifting than the fox (kitsune) or tanuki.
But the historically false conceit that certain Taira clan generals survived and remain in hiding is central to the plot, and the kitsune (fox-spirit) character Genkurō is of course also invented.
The brand collaborated with several artists (MGMT, Naïve New Beaters) and music related organizations (music festivals Marsatac and Transmusicales, and music labels Because Music and Kitsuné).
This resulted in 2 films: a live music film and a documentary which includes 2manydj’s and Soulwax Nite Versions, and features James Murphy, Nancy Whang, Erol Alkan, Tiga, Boys Noize, Justice, Busy P, So-Me, Peaches, The Naked Guy, Kitsuné, Klaxons in behind the scenes footage, interviews and music.
