Cecropins isolated from insects other than Hyalophora cecropia (Cecropia moth) have been given various names; bactericidin, lepidopteran, sarcotoxin, etc.
He was born in Charleville-Mézières in 1908 in the Ardennes and his earliest works were on the lepidopteran fauna of the district.
It was introduced as a replacement for Samuel Hubbard Scudder's genus Lithopsyche which is invalid as a homonym, as another fossil lepidopteran genus had been described under the same name shortly before Scudder established his genus.
