Very much applauded, Portugheis offered as an encore a Mazurka by his much remembered teacher, Vincenzo Scaramuzza.
In October 1909 he performed for King Vittorio Emanuele III, in the historical castle of Sommariva-Perno in Cuneo province, playing the "Prelude in Re maggiore" and the Mazurka-Concert "A Lei!".
He was awarded the First Prize and Gold Medal at the Tenth International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, as well as the special prizes for the best performances of a Mazurka, a Polonaise, and a Concerto, although
