In the late 2000s, soul music artists such as Adele, Duffy, and KT Tunstall began to be added to the playlist; however, by 2010, the station has become closer to a true modern rock format, although the station still plays some modern AC and AAA artists which are not found on most modern rock stations.
Also in 2006, WTMX evolved toward an Adult Top 40 format with the addition of pop-crossover music by artists such as Rihanna, Justin Timberlake and Timbaland, while still retaining many of the modern AC artists they have been playing since 1996.
In Spring 2005, the Royce-era KWOD played its final song ("Nice to Know You" by Incubus) then started a two week long transition to a Modern AC/Light Alternative format with an auditory progress indicator between songs.
On September 7, 2011, at 12:01 am, midway through The Black Eyed Peas' Just Can't Get Enough, KDBZ changed their format from modern AC (branded as "The Buzz") to adult contemporary, branded as "The Peak".
In 1997, B93 began to transition towards a modern AC format, adding more alternative-leaning artists such as Alanis Morissette, Counting Crows, Gin Blossoms, and The Cranberries to its playlist.
