5 unusual facts about modern liberalism in the United States

American Independent News Network

In July, 2011, the Pew Foundation's Project for Excellence in Journalism was reported to have found that, among other non-profit news outlets, "the liberal American Independent News Network doesn't ... reveal much about who’s paying their bills, and its work skews clearly in one direction, both in the topics it covers and the content of individual stories".

Julius C. Michaelson

Julius Cooley Michaelson (January 25, 1922 – November 12, 2011) served as Rhode Island Attorney General from 1975 to 1979 and was the Democratic U.S. Senate nominee in 1982 against liberal Republican John Chafee.

New York divorce law

Despite being generally considered a liberal state, New York has a history of being conservative on issues regarding marriage; but it was the last state in the country to allow no-fault divorce and still maintains a (seldom enforced) law against adultery.

San Francisco values

"San Francisco values" is a term often used pejoratively and as an ad hominem phrase to refer to cultural, social and moral attributes associated with the city of San Francisco, California's liberal politics and pluralist culture.

Unity08

Liberal bloggers also expressed frustration with Unity08 because they contend that the group promoted "establishment" centrist or center-right politicians in the molds of Joe Lieberman and Michael Bloomberg while at the same time doing little to promote the progressive values it would seemingly represent.

Patrick Nielsen Hayden

He supports liberal issues, and is critical of George W. Bush's administration and the Iraq War.
