Erwartung (1924) and La voix humaine (1959) closely follow the traditional definition, while in Eight Songs for a Mad King (1969) by Peter Maxwell Davies, the instrumentalists are brought to the stage to participate in the action.
Recent awards and honors include the Music Prize of the City of Vienna in 2003 and the Golden Lion, for the monodrama "FAMA," at the 2006 Venice Biennale.
In 2010, Orlai Produkciós Iroda made a monodrama, Nemsenkilény, monológ nemmindegyembereknek ("Notanobodycreature"), from the book by Henriett Seth F. The script contains excerpts from Donna Williams' Nobody Nowhere: The extraordinary Autobiography of an Autistic Girl, Sellin's I Don't want to Be Inside Me Anymore, and Mark Haddon's The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time.
He won the award Europe's Actor in the International Monodrama Festival in Oteševo, Republic of Macedonia for his performance of "The Dream" by Julian Barnes in 2003.
