As Director of Naval Nuclear Propulsion, he was also Deputy Administrator for Naval Reactors in the National Nuclear Security Administration, Department of Energy.
His first commissioned tour was serving on the engineering staff of Admiral Hyman G. Rickover at the Division of Naval Reactors (Naval Sea Systems Command 08) in Washington, D.C. During this tour, he was selected to join the Engineering Duty Community.
It is also responsible for many nuclear nonproliferation, counter-terrorism, counter-proliferation, and radiological emergency response efforts for the United States, along with the naval reactors for the United States Navy.
